Rare Antique Signed Gold tone Vanity Mesh Bag Purse with Compact
Pictured is a rare treasure for antique purse collectors or antique jewelry collectors. This exquisite collectible is a Gold Tone Mesh Purse With a Compact. It is correctly referred to as a Vanity Bag (a dainty evening bag, usually made of mesh, incorporating a compact as an integral part of the bag)
The compact is beautifully etched, engraved and hallmarked. Thanks to the inscription on the purse we have the exact date of 1922.
Description: This purse is in excellent condition for its age, with no notable damage other than a small missing portion of the mirror but the glass covering it is fully in tact. Overall, there is some normal wear-consistent with age. The gold mesh is made from Very, Very fine rings and it feels almost like fabric. The strap handle is fitted with a gold slide that adjusts to the size of a womans wrist. The hinges move freely and the clasp closes securely. The mesh body of the purse is securely fastened to the frame with small gold rings. A compact is attached to the top of the mesh. The face of the compact has the initials inscribed on it. There's also an inscription with a date of 1922 on the bottom of the rouge lid. The bottom of the mesh purse is fitted with a tassel. The opening of the lid is fitted with a sapphire blue cabochon closure. Opening the Vanity Purse: Both clasps on this purse are tight-fitting and in excellent condition. Purse opens up to reveal the mirror on the lid and the hollow depressed area for loose rouge or powder to be added. Note in the photos the detailed engraving done around the rouge opening. The detail is stunning and reveals the high quality of this piece.
